Lets get right fucking to it. Its better than I though it was going to be and I thought it was going to be a masterpiece. Shit is EPIC. Monstrous. Gi-fucking-gantic.
Its not a normal Kanye record, its not a rap record. Its not another 808’s and Heartbreak. It stands alone as what I feel Kayne has been trying to make since Late Registration. Indie/Underground(backpacker style)/Pop/Commercial Rap. Despite the vulgarity and dark imagery it has still managed to make its singles radio smashes. “Power”, “Runaway” and “Monster” have been in constant rotation since their release.
The all around sound of the album is aggressive and loud. With the aggression comes an elegance and with the volume comes a perfect ceiling. Its never to aggressive, to loud, or to elegant. Its guest heavy in the greatest way possible. Guests that are good at what they do, are just doing what they do best. Kanye isn’t trying to make is friends famous. He is using his famous friends to make his guest appearances as great as possible. He lets them go, he doesn’t hold them back, and thats why they all work perfectly. John Legend on “Blame Game”, Kid Cudi on “Gorgeous”, Jay-Z on “Monster” and “So Appalled”, Pusha T on “Runaway”, just to name a few. Everything fucking works. Its an incredible feeling when you can listen to Pop music and its works. From start to Finish it works. Its graceful and artsy. Its an album. Its not radio singles tossed on plastic. Its an album. A belittling yet uplifting piece of music.
Having listened to the singles and the G.O.O.D. Friday tracks I thought some songs would be outplayed before I even heard the album. They were just too good. I had to remove them from my “G.O.O.D. Friday Playlist”. I can’t think of them outside the context of the album now. They sound cleaner, deeper and polished. “Runaway” is extended to nine minutes and I could not be happier about that. The radio version works for the radio, the album version works for the album. Fuck it works perfect. Shit is so damn bangin!
This is an album, and a story that will still be talked about in 5, 10, 15 years. From all the hate Kanye recieved do his attitude toword the press. From the TV Apperences, to the radio apperences people are listening and talking abut him. Like it or not. He seems to come and go from the spotlight as he pleases. He got some press from his mistakes then disapeared. Album is on its way so he puts him self back on the map. I’ve been talking about his since August when he started up his twitter. Followed it with spoken word performances at the offices of social networking sites and magazines. Hooked everyone in with his free songs for G.O.O.D. Fridays, performed on a plane, refused to preform in the “Today Show”. His movie “Runaways” aired on BET, MTV and VH1 at the same time.
He is the biggest pop star I can think of these days. Yea, Beiber is big, but Kanye accepted that and remix JB’s most popular track with a Wu-Tang beat and Raekwon the Chef. Kanye is bigger. The band 30seconds to Mars seemed like the biggest thing at the EMA’s. Kanye was up there on stage with them stealing the spot light. George Bush puts out a book and gets some attention, Kanye was all over that shit too. Whats next? The only question now is : How will Kanye connect himself the the Royal Wedding?
Thats all I got for right now. I am going to work on a track by track break down of the album and will post it when I am finished.
Yes, he has five different album covers. Arrogant as fuck, but so fucking bad ass at the same time. Like Lee Marvin in “Point Blank”.
