The rotation on this one has not been matched this year. Its been a few years since I have listened to one record as much as I have this one. Since its release date I have been on its jock. Anyways…On with the review.
I was first introduced to Curren$y this year thanks to Creative Control.tv. With videos featuring the New Orleans MC appearing on the regular. He has a slow delivery, even with the drawl its very clear, smooth, and almost seems effortless. While the topics may not be very wide spread(girls, cars, money and weed), they are made extremely entertaining by how Curren$y decides to tell us about them.
The majority of the production is handeled by Ski Beatz. The album has a 90’s rugged but smooth vibe. Ski Beatz does an incredible job of keeping the 90’s head nod vibe while managing to not sound out dated. The beats and rhymes complement each other as if they studied under Guru and Premier.
Curren$y is only out shined once and that is by none other than Jay Electronica. Jay seems to have done that with every guest spot he has landed this year. Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Devin The Dude and others round out the guest spots. All very strong.
I could quote lines from this album all day, I will just save myself the typing and post “King Kong”. This is the best Rap record I have heard in years.
look out for Pilot Talk 2! Coming this year!
